Reading and discussion: “Apricot time, dark”
Reading and discussion with Corinna Kuhlenkamp: “Apricot time, dark”
Presented by Roy Knocke, Lepsiushaus Potsdam
The novel “Apricot Time, Dark” provides a deep insight into Armenian history. Karine, the protagonist of the novel, is a young German-Armenian who, through her repeated encounter with everyday racism, and after talking with her Armenian grandmother, decides to move to her grandparents' country after studying and to work for a small NGO. She finds herself in a country completely foreign to her, which is post-Soviet, corrupt and patriarchal. “Apricot time, dark” offers an important insight into Armenian history marked by genocide and its denial in Turkey, and takes us to a country haunted by the past, from which young people are running away. It is a disturbing and touching novel about the search for identity and self-determination.
Corinna Kulenkamp, Munich, grew up bilingually as the daughter of an Armenian and a German. She studied political science and international law at Munich and Harvard and then received her doctorate in Munich. She lives and works in Munich.
